Dr Christy Newman is Associate Professor at the Centre for Social Research in Health, UNSW Sydney.

Primarily a qualitative social researcher, much of her research has aimed to elucidate the lived experiences of those populations who have been less well engaged by mainstream health and social care systems, and to understand the challenges faced by those clinical, policy and community-based professionals who seek to promote well-being, inclusion and belonging within these complex systems.

Christy received a University Medal and a Bachelor of Arts with first class honours in communications (Murdoch University) and doctorate in interdisciplinary studies in health, sexuality and culture (UNSW Sydney). She has worked in communications and policy roles in state government agencies, as well as in public relations and issues management for the non-government, government and creative arts sectors.
